A very successful 5 mile road race was held in Adrigole, during the Adrigole festival, over the bank holiday weekend. The race was held in conjunction with Beara Athletics Club and there was prizes in different categories. The race formed part of the Beara Athletic Club Summer league series that will take place over July and August, with races held in Bere Island, Eyeries, Adrigole and Glengarriff. The route which was considered a fair challenge included the testing Massmount hill, was very well received by all the runners. First to cross the line was Seamus McSweeney of St Nicholas AC with a fantastic time of 29.52 and he was followed closely by Mick Silke in a time of 30.16. The first female to cross the line was Deirdre O’ Sullivan from Beara AC in a time of 36.54. It is hoped that the race will continue to grow into the future and will form an integral part of the Adrigole festival held over the August weekend. Adrigole GAA would like to thank all the runners who took part and the many volunteers who stewarded the course.
